Our annual 4-H visit - We always enjoy visiting our county's 4-H Fair; here are some photos from earlier this evening.

New Jersey's best beaches - In this survey, Wildwood was named NJ's best beach. I would've voted for Wildwood Crest myself, always our favorite -- wide, free and clean. But it did come in at #2, so I can't complain.Labels: NJ

Downloadable free audio books from the library - Why didn't someone think of this before? You can borrow audio books from your local library, so why not have the ability to download them right from your home? You can even burn them to a CD during the lending period to take along in your car or wherever. Check out the titles at ListenNJ.

Many people are still being housed in shelters, unable to return to their homes until safety inspections can take place. Some areas reportedly had more damage than would be expected in 500 years from this storm. Area collections of blankets and toiletries are ongoing.Labels: currentEvents, NJ, weather

Stuff and such - One of my favorite sunset photos that I took up at the lake nearly five years ago has been selected for publication in JerseyPride.com's Images of NJ collection.
A couple of firsts tonight: my first trip to the very-popular Carrabba's Italian Grill, and our first dinner out with four of our neighbors who we've been friendly with for over 20 years. I was the only one new to the restaurant, everyone else had been there many times. Then it was back to our place for after-dinner drinks, many more hours of gabbing about our town, our restaurants, local politics and local folks. A very nice evening.
Tomorrow, we're hosting our annual mid-winter family dinner. This used to be tied to my grandmother's birthday, but we continued the tradition even after she passed away 14 years ago, as a nice way to beat the late-winter doldrums, and to remember her. A Winter Storm Watch predicts conditions to start deteriorating during dinner time, but we're hoping it holds off just a few hours.
(PS - It all worked out perfectly, and the snow did hold off til it was time to leave)Labels: friends, NJ, photos, restaurants, weather
